Assessment-First Therapy

This Isn't a Cookie-Cutter Massage

Every session starts with a real assessment — not a menu. We talk about what hurts, how active you are, and what you want to get back to. Then the work is built around you.

1:1

One-on-One Sessions

60 minutes of focused, individualized work. No assembly line. No background noise. Just targeted therapy.

Injury-Aware Approach

Sessions are built around your body, your injury history, and your goals — not a standard routine applied to everyone.

Effective, Not Painful

Deep work doesn't have to hurt. The pressure is matched to you — strong enough to make a difference, never more than you can handle.

The Process

3 Steps to Healing

01

Assessment

A real conversation about what hurts, how active you are, what you've tried, and what you want to get back to. The plan starts here — nothing is generic.

02

Approach

A targeted plan drawn from the assessment, combining cross-fiber friction, deep tissue work, and myofascial release. Techniques are matched to your tissues, patterns, and goals — never a stock routine.

03

Recovery

Restoring movement, easing pain, and getting you back to your activity at full strength.

Services

Comprehensive Massage Therapy

Different bodies, different problems, different approaches. Larry uses whichever combination works for you.

Myofascial Release

Best for: Mobility restrictions & adhesions

Larry's specialty. Working with the connective tissue around your muscles to release restrictions and bring back range of motion.

Often paired with deep tissue work.

Sports/Deep Tissue

Best for: Posture correction & chronic tension

Strong, focused work that reaches the deeper muscle layers. Built for athletes and active people dealing with chronic tightness.

Always calibrated to your comfort.

Relaxation/Stress Relief

Best for: Sensitive populations & system recovery

Gentler, calming work for clients who prefer lighter pressure. A great fit for stress recovery and for anyone who isn't a candidate for deep work.

Same care, lighter touch.

Injury Work

Best for: Injury rehabilitation & tendon pathologies

Targeted work on the injured tissue itself — using friction technique developed by Drs. Cyriax and Ombregt — to help damaged ligaments and tendons heal cleanly.

Clinical rehab, not relaxation.

Cupping

Best for: Stubborn adhesions & muscle tightness

Silicone cups that gently lift the skin to break up adhesions and help tight muscle tissue release. Often what you're seeing on athletes with the round marks. Available as part of a session.

Available on request.

About

The MTI Standard

Larry Howard trained at the Muscular Therapy Institute (MTI) in Cambridge, MA — one of the most rigorous massage therapy programs in New England — and went on to complete the Ben Benjamin School's advanced clinical training, six seminars in deep anatomy and ligament work.

That training is the foundation of his practice: a friction technique pioneered by Drs. Cyriax and Ombregt for treating ligament and tendon injuries, paired with myofascial and deep tissue work refined over 20 years of practice.

He's Board Certified by the NCTMB and a Certified Orthopedic Sports Massage Specialist. He also holds a B.S. from Norwich University. The principle is simple: assess first, then treat with care.

Experience with professional athletes in the NFL and International Triathlon.

Testimonials

What Clients Say

"Larry gets results. I always leave with less pain, more range of motion and energy. He has a great demeanor, checks in with your experience and easily adjusts to your comfort level. No fluffy stuff unless you ask for it (and he's good at that too), he warms up the tissues and gets down to releasing it."

— Sharon Hall

"I have been seeing Larry for several years in a different location & now he is in Foxboro! He is great in his understanding of the muscles & how they work when it comes to massage & myofascial release. He is very professional & listens to what is going on in your body. He is sensitive to how much pressure or stretch that is needed to get results.

I had been having hip pain that had been affecting my back muscles. I always leave with greater range of motion, & now I have no pain. I recommend Larry! You will not be disappointed!!"

— Lory Broderick

"Thank you Larry, love your work and it really helped me. I feel so much better. I can tell that you really know the body very well."

What to Expect at Your First Session

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is deep tissue massage painful? +
Deep doesn't mean painful. The pressure is calibrated to be effective — accessing deeper muscle layers to produce real structural change — without causing unnecessary pain or protective muscle guarding. You'll always have input on intensity.
How many sessions will I need? +
It depends on what you're dealing with. For chronic orthopedic issues, a minimum of two sessions per week is often recommended to maintain treatment momentum. Maintenance and recovery work may require less frequency. Your treatment plan will be built around your situation.
What should I wear? +
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For sports-specific and orthopedic work, athletic shorts and a tank top or sports bra are ideal, as they allow direct access to the treatment area. Draping is always maintained for your comfort.
I'm not an athlete — is this for me? +
Absolutely. While many clients are competitive athletes, the assessment-first approach works equally well for desk workers, weekend warriors, and anyone dealing with chronic pain, limited range of motion, or postural issues. The treatment is adapted to you.
Are there conditions where massage isn't appropriate? +
Yes. Certain conditions — including acute inflammation, fever, blood clots, fractures, and some skin conditions — are contraindications for massage. These will be discussed during your intake assessment. When in doubt, consult your physician first.
What is your cancellation policy? +
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to reschedule or cancel. This allows the time slot to be offered to another client. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee.
Do you accept insurance? +
Massage therapy coverage varies by plan. Contact your insurance provider to confirm whether orthopedic or therapeutic massage is covered under your policy. A receipt can be provided for reimbursement purposes.
